Been a really long time!
Written by Jill on March 15, 2008 – 7:21 pm -Sorry for the lack of updates but I have been ultra busy. We still have not moved into a home yet. We will be doing that on the 1st of April. YAY!!
I do have some big news though… Starting Monday, I will be homeschooling Kiddo. This may only be a temporary thing but I’m kind of hoping that it might be permanent. Getting a job has been a problem as well and whether or not I can homeschool permanently will depend mostly on my schedule.
I went to our local teacher store and bought some books to work out of and will be coming up with other things as well. I just needed something to get started with. I finished writing out lesson plans for the first week and am so excited about starting on Monday! Kiddo is looking forward to it as well. While she is never excited about school work, she likes the fact that we can work at our own pace. The pressure is off and she can relax. If it takes us three days to get through a particular math page, then so be it. At least she will have the opportunity to really LEARN it rather than being rushed through whether she understands it or not.
I have looked up the state laws and will be following them. They are pretty simple requirements really. Need to document attendance and hours and I need to keep a portfolio of sample work that Kiddo has done. Won’t be any trouble.

Hello and welcome to AspieMom.com. I am the proud mother of a ten year old daughter who was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in 2006. I love to talk to others who have Aspie children. I feel it is important to learn all we can not only so we can cope as parents but so we can help the kids cope as well.

I’ve worked with a few parents who are opting to home school their children on the autism spectrum. Although it’s a lot of work, they feel it has been the best thing for their kids.

Ahhh, I’m so glad you guys made a decision. Hope everything goes well with it. We are so torn as to what to do for Christopher next year. Hopefully, we can make a decision soon. Unfortunately, it won’t be homeschooling, I just don’t see me being able to swing it with babies, but it is something that I’ve always wanted to try. Good luck to you guys!

Thanks Ruthie. Homeschooling is great but it sure isn’t easy when you have a million other things that need your attention. I’m feeling that pain right now. The only reason I’m doing it is because if I don’t, I will never see Kiddo except on my days off. Homeschooling was really the only viable solution for us right now. I hope next year turns out to be a great year for Christopher no matter what you decide.
