Changes

Normally, Kiddo does not handle change very well. Major changes usually send her into frequent meltdowns but so far, she’s doing well. I started my new job earlier this week after being a stay at home mom for the past two years. She’s handling it pretty well. Better than I am. :)

Homeschooling continues to go well. I’m hoping we can take a few field trips soon. She really wants to go to the zoo and that will fit with our current science topic.

I am so happy I chose to continue homeschooling. She does so much better with it. She is so much more willing to learn and do the work. In the classroom setting, there are too many distractions and too much pressure for her. She just shuts down. This was definitely the right choice for her. I hate that she misses out on a lot of social interaction but then again, a lot of the interaction at school was negative anyway. This is partly because the other kids just don’t accept her because she’s “different” and also it is because she mis-interprets the other kids. She sees certain behaviors as negative even if they really aren’t.

I’m wondering if maybe we can consider taking her off the Celexa for anxiety. I’m afraid to do that just yet since it is so soon after I started my job and things could go sour at any time with her. But most of her anxiety was school related. Now that she is homeschooling… there really isn’t much anxiety at all. She does get frustrated with math still but for the most part, it is easy going because I’m there to help her when she needs it. No pressure. That’s the key. I will be talking to the doctor about stopping the medication after awhile I think.

I’m so happy to hear that things are working out.
You can always find social interaction in other settings. You could consider joining a homeschool group or doing “gym” at the YMCA or local rec centers.

Good luck at the new job.

Oh my goodness Jill. I was just going through mybloglog and adding communities from my friends and had no clue. K was just diagnosed in December (although it took almost a year to get everyone to sign off, we knew for about a year before that) And now we are talking about actually getting dh tested (I was sure he had it before I was sure she did!!!) What a small world. And to think, I had never even heard of AS until a couple of years ago when my friends dd was diagnosed… turns out I have been married to an asby for 19 years!!!

I am going to be adding this to my google reader and keeping up!!!

    Hugs,
    Les

    Hi Jill,

Jill you are a wonderful person and so full of love and concern for your child. Have you thought about trying aromatherapy. The aroma of Lavender would help your daughter with anxiety. It’s well worth the study.
    God Bless.

    Sincerely, Roy
