The Almighty Binder

One very helpful thing to do is to keep a binder of all correspondence relating to your child. This is especially beneficial if your child is in school and you have a lot of written communication. This was actually suggested to me by a contact at NRCIL.

In my binder, I have a few sections. I have a section for correspondence from Kiddo’s social worker, a section for correspondence from her psychiatrist, one for correspondence from the school and one for personal notes. It was also suggested to keep the envelopes with any correspondence that comes through the mail so you have a date from the postmark in case there isn’t a date on the correspondence itself. I also keep any pictures or anything that Kiddo might draw or write about how she’s feeling.

It’s an easy way to keep things organized and at your finger tips. You can take it with you to CSE meetings or appointments with the psychiatrist. What makes it so great is that, if you keep it in order, it gives you a time line of when things happened so you can always refer back.

Now speaking about this… I need to get our binder out and add a few things to it. :)
